Letty Eileen Cole, who lived in Sitka for more than 20 years, died Oct. 15, 2014, in the Ketchikan hospital. She was 93.
At her request, no services will be held.
Letty Eileen Whitehead was born on June 21, 1921, in Sarcoxie, Missouri. She attended schools there, and then lived in Oregon before moving to Ketchikan, where a relative lived, in 1965.
She came to Sitka in 1990, and lived at Swan Lake Terrace. She loved working as a volunteer at the White Elephant Shop. She also enjoyed working in greenhouses, and was a superb seamstress.
She was a member of Women of the Moose and the Emblem Club.
She moved back to Ketchikan in 2009, and was a resident of the Ketchikan Pioneers Home at the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her son, James Kent Stewart, and sister Lucy Braun.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam (Tom) Srna of Ketchikan; grandsons Daryl (Tammy) Hert of Ketchikan, and Derek Hert and Bill Sukert of Anchorage; granddaughter Dayna Hert of Ketchikan; great-gtrandson Zephanie Ware of Cottage Grove, Oregon;and great-granddaughters Tori, Kali, Ahna, Brooke and Alyssa of Ketchikan.

Western Illinois’ Travis Watson was named Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week by the Mid-Continent Conference after a successful campaign in recent individual and relay team events. Watson, a 2000 Sitka High graduate, is a senior in engineering technology. He is the son of Cathy Watson and the late Craig H. Watson.

Marilyn Knapp, president of the Greater Sitka Arts Council, announced today the council will solicit local businesses and individuals for scholarships to be awarded to Sitka students planning to attend the Regional Fine Arts Camp on the Sheldon Jackson College campus in July.
