Gregory Allen Belton

Gregory Allen Belton, 50, passed away Oct. 16 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Wash., after a brief illness.
Greg was residing in Sitka at the time of his death; he had lived in Anchorage for many years prior. Greg considered himself an Alaskan and enjoyed everything Alaska had to offer.
Greg was born in Los Angeles, Calif., and attended high school at Foothill High School in Sacramento, Calif. After graduating from high school he moved to Alaska, where he met and married the love of his life, Yvonne Dahl.
He worked construction and later at KIFW radio station in Sitka, where he had resided for the past two years.
His hobbies were fishing, swimming, cooking, and spending time with his family.  His grandchildren referred to him as “Opa” and he had a special bond with his granddaughter Lilah, who he recently successfully converted to a San Francisco 49er fan.
His stepdaughter Rachael states, “I will miss the conversations about the Niners. I could anticipate a call from him every Sunday during football season, asking for the play-by-play or a score update, or just to watch the game together via telephones and run an active commentary. Every time I watch them, I think of him.”
He is survived by his mother, Joyce Hopper, of California, and former wife Yvonne Dahl, and three stepchildren, Rachael (Aaron) Johnson, Erik Dahl, and Mallory Dahl, all of Anchorage.
He is also survived by three grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, and numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
The family wants to give a special thanks to Mike Trillo for helping in their time of need.
“He fought a courageous battle against his illnesses. God saw the road was getting rough and the hill was getting too hard to climb, so he took him by the hand and led him home,” his family said. “Greg, we will miss you forever and will never forget you. Thank you for your gift of love.”
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, to be announced.
