Ronald Krueger

Ronald Lewis Krueger, a Sitka resident since 1977, died Jan. 13 at his home in Sitka. He was 69.

A gathering will be held later, probably in May or June, so friends  and family can share stories.

Ron was born April 27, 1945, in Amarillo, Texas, the son of Melba (Linder) and Carl L. Krueger. When Ron was young the family moved to Portland, Ore., where he grew up. He attended Portland State University.

After moving to Sitka, he worked at Sitka National Historical Park, Sheldon Jackson College, Alaska Pulp Co., at the Coast Guard air station, and for the Alaska Marine Highway.

He volunteered at Raven Radio, and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Ron “loved it in Sitka, he loved what he was doing,” his sister Karen Hutton said.

 

He is survived by his daughter, Sancie Raynor, of Sequim, Wash.; his sister, Karen Hutton, of Surprise, Ariz., and Gresham, Ore., and Karen’s son, Chris White, and his daughter Haley, of Gresham; and a brother, Gary Krueger of Portland ,and his family – daughter Leslie of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and son Justin (Celeste) and  their two daughters.

The Youth Totem Pole Project blessing of the log ceremony will be held at Sitka National Historical Park visitor center. Pacific High youths and carver Tommy Joseph will be introduced and the story and design of the totem pole project will be presented.

50 YEARS AGO

February 1975

Sitka Volunteer Fire Department reports ice on Swan Lake is 7-9 inches deep and safe for skating. However, officials warn skaters to avoid the end of the lake near Lakeside Grocery, since the ice is thinner there.
