Christi Jean Stalkfleet passed away Feb. 8, 2015, in Wilsonville, Ore., where she was living. She was 22.
Born in Sitka April 21, 1992, she lived here until she was 21 when she moved to Oregon to stay with her sister and be near specialized medical care. She struggled with cystic fibrosis all of her life.
Christi graduated from Sitka High School with the class of 2010. She was well known for her humor, kindness and positive attitude. She loved to socialize and be where the “action” was.
Many of her friends say she was bubbly and always smiling and laughing. She could be very witty and passionate at times, which probably contributed to the fighter in her.
She made a distinct impression on the people she met. She will always be admired by her family and friends for touching their lives with the grace of her struggle.
She loved camping, shopping, cooking and drawing. Most of all she enjoyed doing these things with the people she loved. She worked at the Dock Shack restaurant where she made many lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Stalkfleet, who died June 11, 2014.
Survivors are her mother, Karen Stalkfleet of Sitka; sisters, Rose Stalkfleet of Wilsonville, Ore., and Ellen Corak of Sitka; friend and “big brother” Cory Gould of Canby Ore.; best friend forever, dog Kaska; Aunt Mary Stalkfleet and family of Portland, Ore.; Uncle Earl Thornock and family of Portland; Uncle Joe Stalkfleet and family of Tricities, Wash.; Uncle Chris Stalkfleet and family of Soldotna; Grandmother Bonnie Phillips of Springfield, Ore.; Uncle Gary Slaven and family of Petersburg; Uncle Jack Slaven and family of Harrisburg, Ore.; Uncle Mike Slaven and family of Petersburg; Aunt Joan Sherry and family of Springfield; Uncle Roger Slaven and family of Bandon, Ore.; Uncle Randy and Uncle Doug Bailey and family of Springfield; and many other relatives.
“We would like to thank OHSU, Dornbecker Hospital, SEARHC and all of the doctors, nurses, and social workers who helped her throughout her illness,” her family wrote.
Any donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Oregon Chapter.
A celebration of life for Christi will be held 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Elks Lodge in Sitka. All are welcome to come down and reminisce about all the good times these last 22 years, the family said.
