Sitka Unified Command says two more positive test results for COVID-19 were received Thursday.

The first confirmed case is a female resident, age 10-19, who was asymptomatic and received COVID-19 testing on August 23.

The second confirmed case is a male resident, age 60-69, who was symptomatic and received COVID-19 testing on August 24.

Public Health officials on Thursday notified Unified Command, which issued the press release this morning.

Unified Command said both patients are isolating. Public Health officials have initiated a contact investigation and will notify and isolate additional persons who may have been in contact with the two.

Sitka’s cumulative positive test count is now at 39 resident cases, 17 non-resident cases, and 1 hospitalization.

Sitka’s alert level is currently at “orange” or “moderate.” The state orange alert level says that means “moderate community transmission, with some undetected cases and infrequent discrete outbreaks.” Recommendations include face coverings indoors, six-foot distances, limits of 100-person gatherings with outdoor events encouraged; indoor capacity reduced and employees wearing masks at restaurants, with delivery and carry-out preferred; and bars reducing capacity to 50 percent and employees wearing masks.
