T’ai Chi Chih

Set Saturday

T’ai Chi Chih Practice will be held 10 a.m. Saturday,  March 1, at the See House behind St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 611 Lincoln Street.

Entrance is through the side door at end of the winding sidewalk. 

 

Gardeners, Growers

Invited to Gather

Growers, entrepreneurs and local food enthusiasts are invited to gather, connect and offer their experiences of growing food in Sitka over a potluck dinner 6-8 p.m. March 5 at the See House behind St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 611 Lincoln Street.

The potluck will be by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service. The evening will feature presentations from Andrea Fraga of Middle Island Gardens and Laura Schmidt of St. Peter’s Fellowship Farm, who will share tidbits from the recent Southeast Farmers Summit.

Basement Night

At Science Center

The Sitka Sound Science Center basement night is planned 5:30-7 p.m.  Thursday, Feb. 27, to tour the basement, visit the aquarium, meet active researchers from UCSC and UAS, and participate in family friendly activities.

It is open to the public.

Senior Coffee

Social Series Set

City and Borough of Sitka Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with Catholic Community Services, will continue the free Senior Coffee Social Series in March.

They are 10 a.m.-noon Mondays at the Swan Lake Senior Center, 402 Lake Street.

Socials will continue every Monday in March. An assortment of baked goods will be provided, alongside coffee, tea, and juice. Puzzles, books, playing cards, and other activities will be available for use. All seniors are welcome. Shows Slated for

F/V Wind Walker

Two F/V Wind Walker memorial shows are planned 8-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Harrigan Centennial Hall.

Performing are Sledgehammer, Peter Wooten and Shambala.

A percentage of proceeds and all profits from a raffle and silent auction and show posters go to the families of the F/V Wind Walker crew. The boat with five aboard sank Dec. 1.

Tickets at $20 can be purchased in advance at eventbrite.com and at the door for $25.

Elder Coffee Time

Listed for March 6

Elders and community partners are invited to gather, socialize and learn more about resources available to them at the Community Elder Coffee Time 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. March 6  in the Raven Room at Harrigan Centennial Hall.

Lunch, coffee and baked goods will be provided.

Also on March 6, the Elder Resource Fair will run 11 a.m.-4 p.m. 

Attendees are asked to carpool or e dropped off at the hall.
