Two new positive tests for COVID-19 were reported today on the city dashboard.

Both are male residents, who received results today. One, age 30-39, received testing on October 16. The other is symptomatic, age 60-69, who was tested October 21.

Sitka remains on an alert level of “low” or yellow, with four cases reported since September 30.

Incident Commander John Leach, the city administrator, encouraged Sitkans at last week’s Unified Command meeting to “remain vigilant and keep following our mitigation guidelines,” since they seem to be working.

Also at last week’s meeting Rob Janik, Planning Section Chief, commended community members, visitors and businesses for their mitigation efforts, “especially in the face of what our neighbors in Juneau are experiencing,” said a Unified Command news release Friday. “Juneau is a high alert level and locking down due to the level of disease transmission in their community.”

Other reminders were also listed in the release, including for frequent hand washing, avoiding close contact with others, staying home when ill, wearing face coverings when around others, disinfecting surfaces and keeping social circles small.
