Loyd Platson has withdrawn as a candidate for Assembly, and Jim Rogers has decided against running for Sitka School Board, the city clerk’s office said.
Friday was the deadline for candidates to withdraw from the Oct. 1 municipal election. City Clerk Sara Peterson released the final list of candidates today.
Platson said his workload increased after he filed for office, and he felt he didn’t have the time needed for the job, particularly given his volunteer and professional commitments.
“I just couldn’t give it the time I felt I needed to do the job well,” Platson said.
Rogers said he wouldn’t have filed if Paul Rioux had filed before he did.
“He’s a strong candidate, he’s been here a lot longer than I have,” Rogers said today. “I’ve talked to him extensively and I’ll be supporting him.”
The final lineup for the two Assembly seats on the ballot is Aaron Bean, Thor Christianson, Kevin Knox, Steve Lee and Ben Miyasato. Bean and Knox are the incumbents.
School Board candidates for the single open seat are Cass Pook and Paul Rioux.
