Four new COVID cases on Thursday took Sitka’s case rate slightly down, but another death was added to the state’s dashboard.
The new death brings the total in Sitka to five since the start of the pandemic. The dashboard does not say when the latest death occurred.
Sitka’s case rate went down to 586.65 after a five-case day dropped off the seven-day chart. The case rate is the number of cases in the last week, adjusted for 100,000 population.
Sitka had 50 positive tests in the last week, 47 of them residents and three nonresidents.
The vaccination rate continues to climb slowly, with 83.31 percent (6,154) partially vaccinated and 83.09 percent (6,136) fully vaccinated. The percentages are from the 7,385 listed as age 12 and up in Sitka.
Some 95.81 percent of Sitka’s age 65 and up population is listed by the state as “fully vaccinated,” but the state says it’s investigating a possible overestimation in Alaskan communities.
