4 SHS Seniors Accepted Into Ivy Leagues

Four Sitka High School seniors have been accepted early into some of the most selective universities in the country, Sitka High Principal Laura Rogers said.
“It’s something very few high schools with 300 kids could brag about,” she said. “I’ve never had four kids accepted early to four Ivy League schools in any of the districts I’ve worked in.”
Aani Perkins, the daughter of Kim and Jessica Perkins, was accepted to Dartmouth College; Joe Pate, the son of Jude and Christine Pate, was accepted by Brown University; Ella Lubin, the daughter of Lisa Busch and Davey Lubin, was accepted by Yale, and Lucy Poulson, the daughter of James Poulson and Kristen Homer, by Harvard.
Rogers said she is proud of the kids, who work hard in school and have many interests outside the classroom.
“They have the grades, they have the test scores, and they have the background that sets them up well for success,” she said. “They’re also interesting people. And coming from a nice school district has afforded them all kinds of opportunities for personal learning and growth. I think all four of the kids are very different, they all bring different things to the table. They’re individuals with different interests, and it speaks well of their experience K through 12.”
She noted this is just the beginning of the school admissions process, and many students are putting together plans to further their education, whether it’s in a traditional university setting, or in technical training.
“We’re in a district where we are able to meet the needs of kids at all ends of the spectrum regardless of what their passions and interests are.”
