By Sentinel Staff

The Alaska Historical Society’s annual conference finished the first session, Oct. 6-8, and is into its second, today through Saturday, Oct. 15.

All of the conference presentations and panel discussions are virtual through the Crowdcast streaming application, and are being recorded and posted immediately so they can be viewed later by those registered for the conference.

The theme of the conference, being held in collaboration with the Cook Inlet Historical Society, is “Conflicting Visions in Alaska History,” and is featuring sessions on Native sovereignty, fisheries, art and artists, violence and trade

Registration is $50 at alaskahistoricalsociety.org. For more information go to the website at alaskahistoricalsociety.org.

The Alaska Historical Society board is encouraging members to participate in the virtual business meeting, scheduled 2-3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14.

The primary agenda item is consideration of changes to bylaws, which haven’t been updated since 2009. The board is requesting members approve changes to permit electronic voting and circulation of information, among other issues.

The meeting also will have reports of the past year’s activities, announcement of newly elected members of the board of directors, presentation of the society’s annual awards, and remembrance of colleagues who died this past year.

There also will be time for members to speak on issues of concern to Alaska’s history community, and propose programs and projects for the society to undertake.
