A cat found inside a pillow case and grazed by a bullet has been reunited with its owner – who is very upset, police said today.
A cat found in a bag is pictured.
A passerby had spotted the pillow case near the water by Whale Park Wednesday afternoon, and found the cat and a bullet inside. Police posted a photo of the cat, and a friend called the owner this morning to ask if it was her pet.
The bullet found in the bag as well is pictured.
“It was,” a police spokesperson said. “She was very upset – they all love the cat.”
Police are certain the owner isn’t the one who mistreated the cat, the spokesperson said.
The owner and her mother went to Pets Choice veterinarian clinic to identify the cat and claim it. Although bruised a little, the cat, a female, appears fine, police said.
The incident is being investigated.
Before finding the cat was not being disposed of by the owner, police had released a reminder to the public along with the cat’s photo.
“The Sitka Animal Shelter is open and will accept surrendered animals,” the release stated. “There are outside kennels that surrendered cats, dogs, rabbits or poultry can be dropped off at any time,” the release said. “Volunteers from Friends of the Sitka Animal Shelter stop by the shelter multiple times a day to care for the animals, and any animals in the outside kennels will be taken into the shelter.”
