Life Celebration

For Tiffany Martin

A celebration of life for Tiffany Jai (Davenport) Martin will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Halibut Point Recreation Area main shelter.

It will be potluck style, and dishes are welcome.

 

Medvejie Tours,

Salmon Bakes Set

NSRAA will offer a hatchery tour and salmon bake lunch July 1 at the Medvejie Hatchery.

Attendees will see king salmon returning to the hatchery and hear about the fisheries enhancement program.

Two tours are planned with transportation provided by Allen Marine. The first will depart Crescent Harbor at 9 a.m., arriving back at 12:15 p.m. The second, departs at 12:30 p.m. and returns at 4 p.m. Space is limited.

Tickets are $15, cash only, and are available at the NSRAA office, 1308 Sawmill Creek Road, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 907-747-6850.

 

Unitarians Meet

Bruce Gazaway will speak on “Thomas Starr King: Is his example relevant today?” at Sunday’s meeting of the Sitka Unitarian Fellowship.

Starr King (1824-1864) was a Unitarian minister, orator, teacher and activist for social justice, Gazaway said. ‘‘During the Civil War he worked tirelessly to keep California in the Union.’’

All are invited to attend. The gathering is at 10:30 a.m. followed by the program at 10:45 a.m. The Fellowship Hall is located at 408 Marine Street, with parking off Spruce Street.

 

Imagination

Library Event

Set for May 29

The Sitka Imagination Library will host a free, family engagement “ABC-themed” event 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 29, at Harrigan Centennial Hall rooms 5 and 6.

The program is for families with children up to 5 years of age.  Snacks, story time, crafts, play stations and other activities are planned.

Visit Sitka Plans

Summer Expo

Visit Sitka will host its annual Summer Expo 3-6 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Centennial Hall.

It is held trade show-style, and offers a chance for the community to meet with tours, activities, and attractions that will be available for the summer season.

The event is free and open to the public. Booth spaces are free for Visit Sitka partners. Partners may register online at business.sitkachamber.com/events/calendar before Friday, May 5, to host a booth.

Limited space is available and offered on a first-come, first-served, basis.

 

Child Abuse Topic

At Lunch & Learn

Parents, caregivers  and community members are invited to a special lunch and learn event 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Centennial Hall. 

Food and daycare will be provided at no cost and the presentation will cover strategies to be aware of child abuse, grooming and reporting. The event is being organized by Sitka Tribe of Alaska Social Service Department as part of the Child Abuse Prevention month activities.
