Speak in Sitka
Dr. Anne Zink, chief medical officer for the State of Alaska, will give a presentation about the COVID pandemic in Alaska 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at the Sheet’ka Ḵwaán Naa Kahidi community house. Doors will open at 4 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
Zink, appointed by Gov. Dunleavy, oversees public health in Alaska and played a key role in ensuring the health and safety of Alaskans during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her presentation is part of a two-day workshop put on by the Sitka Sound Science Center for researchers who studied COVID in the circumpolar north during the pandemic. This workshop is funded by the National Science Foundation.

Panel to Meet
Sitka Tribe of Alaska’s Kayaani Commission will hold a hybrid meeting 6:30 p.m. today at the tribal administration building, at 204 Siginaka Way.

Baranof Island Housing Authority’s monthly board of commissioners meeting will be held 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Centennial Hall.

Jarvis Street
Closure Noted
Jarvis Street will be closed north of the lower driveway at the Transfer Station site at 205 Jarvis Street April 24-28.
Entry and exit to the Transfer Station will be accessed via the lower driveway on Jarvis Street. For locations north of the Transfer Station on Jarvis Street, traffic will be rerouted to Smith Street then Beardslee Way.
Motorists are asked to use caution and follow all signage.
‘‘Thank you for your patience as we work to make improvements to the Transfer Station,’’ the city said.
