Speak Thursday

Dr. Anne Zink, chief medical officer for the State of Alaska, will give a presentation about the COVID pandemic in Alaska 4:30-5:30 p.m.  Thursday, April 27, at the Sheet’ka Ḵwaán Naa Kahidi community house. Doors will open at 4 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend. 

Zink, appointed by Gov. Dunleavy, oversees public health in Alaska and played a key role in ensuring the health and safety of Alaskans during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Her presentation is part of a two-day workshop put on by the Sitka Sound Science Center for researchers who studied COVID in the circumpolar north during the pandemic. This workshop is funded by the National Science Foundation.

 

Imagination

Library Event

Set for April 29

The Sitka Imagination Library will host a free, family engagement “ABC-themed” event 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 29, at Harrigan Centennial Hall rooms 5 and 6.

The program is for families with children up to 5 years of age.  Snacks, story time, crafts, play stations and other activities are planned.

Parade of Species

Planned Thursday

Sitka Conservation Society’s AK Way of Life club annual Parade of Species will be 3 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in downtown Sitka.

Youths of all ages, their families, and other community members, can join in on the event.

Dressing up as a favorite Alaska plant or animal is highly encouraged, the organizers said.

ANS Camp 4

Meets Thursday

Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 will meet 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at 404 Hollywood Way in the commons area.

A spring bazaar and summer plans are on the agenda. The meeting is open to the public. For further information call 747-7803.

 

Highway Cleanup

Event on Thursday

Sitka Pioneers of Alaska will hold its adopt-a-mile highway cleanup event 10 a.m. Thursday, April 27. Volunteers will meet at Old Sitka.

Meets Thursday

Sitka Emblem Club 142 will hold a social meeting and initiation 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at the Elks Lodge. Dinner will be served. All members are invited to attend.
