Life Celebration

For Dave Galanin

A celebration of life will be held in honor of Dave Galanin 3-9 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Halibut Point Recreation Area main shelter.

Those wishing to attend are invited to take food to share, a guitar, cigar, and stories to tell.

Dave, 66, died December 18, 2021.

Women of Moose

Meet April 11

Sitka Women of the Moose will meet 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 11, at the Moose Lodge.

After the meeting, at 7 p.m., the group will fill 1,200-plus plastic Easter eggs for the kids’ egg hunt, which will be April 17 at Pioneer Park.

All women are being asked to stop in and help with filling the eggs.

Volunteers are needed on April 17 to hide the eggs at Pioneer Park.

Installation of officers will be on April 30.

 

LOOM to Meet,

Volunteers Sought

Sitka Moose Lodge officers will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, followed by the general meeting at 7 p.m.

Elections of officers will occur at the meeting, and members are being asked to attend the election.

Lodge members are needed for two volunteer events this month, a highway cleanup event and Easter egg hiding on April 17.

 

April 27 will be a membership meeting. Installation of incoming officers is scheduled April 30. 

 

Parade of Species

Slated April 22

The 21st annual Parade of Species will be celebrated 3:30 p.m. April 22, sponsored by Sitka Conservation Society.

Participants will meet at Totem Square with their favorite species-inspired costume and be ready to head down Lincoln Street. The celebration will end at the SJ Campus where  costume prizes will be given by community sponsors. Masks are required to participate.

Women’s Book

Group to Meet

The Women’s Book Group will hold a Zoom meeting to discuss ‘‘The Salt Path’’ by Raynor Winn at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12.

Women are being encouraged to call Dorothy at 747-3412 to receive an e-mailed invitation.

 

St. Peter’s Resumes

In-Person Services

St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church will resume in-person Sunday services beginning April 10 at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., with an option for Zoom at 10 a.m.

The church is open daily for persons to stop in for a time of quiet, rest and prayer.

Meets April 9

Sitka Woman’s Club will meet noon-2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Harbor Mountain Brewing Company, 215 Smith Street.

Pianist Saito In

Concert April 7

Sitka Fine Arts Camp will present a concert featuring pianist Misaki Saito 7 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Sitka Performing Arts Center.

Saito will play music from East to West by composers Say, Yoshimatsu, Villa-Lobos, Debussy and Mozart.

Traditional Foods

Series Rescheduled

The April 6 opening ceremony for the Traditional Foods & Medicine series has been canceled due to weather.

Instead, join instructors 10 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at Sitka National Historical Park for a series introduction and plant identification walk. More updates on harvesting, processing and respectful stewardship sessions can be found at facebook.com/herringprotectors/events.
