A new mayor and two new Assembly members will be sworn into office at tonight’s regular Assembly meeting, 6 p.m. in Harrigan Centennial Hall.
It’s the first Assembly meeting since the Oct. 6 municipal election in which a mayor, two Assembly members and two School Board members were chosen. The outgoing Assembly will take up old business items, and the newly sworn-in members will take up new business, including items up for first reading.
On the current Assembly are Kevin Knox, Kevin Mosher, Valorie Nelson, Steven Eisenbeisz, Thor Christianson, Richard Wein and Mayor Gary Paxton.
After taking up the first few items (appropriations, city seal resolution, vehicle registration fees), the Assembly will vote on certifying election results. After that, outgoing Assembly members Wein and Paxton will be recognized, which will be followed by a short break, and the swearing in of newly elected members: Eisenbeisz as mayor, and Crystal Duncan and Rebecca Himschoot as Assembly members.
The newly constituted Assembly will take on such items as appointments to the Sitka Planning Commission, the Investment Committee, and Gary Paxton Industrial Park board; a marijuana cultivation license renewal; an appropriation for rehabilitating the Green Lake hydro; direction on the haulout; update on CARES Act funding; and Assembly members’ liaison assignments, and selection of the deputy mayor and vice-deputy mayor.
