Sawmill Creek Rd.

Project Updated:

The Sawmill Creek Road Resurfacing and Pedestrian Improvements project website has been updated with the following information for this week:

–Installation of the underground drainage system will continue between the roundabout and Hollywood Way, and crossings between Baranof Street and Degroff Street.

–Curb, gutter and sidewalk will be installed from DeGroff Street to the cemetery on the mountain side of the road.

–Grading for curb and gutter will continue on the mountain side of the road between Baranof Street and DeGroff Street.

–Grading for curb and gutter will continue on the water side of the road between Monastery Street and Baranof Street.

As a reminder for displaced residents, designated parking from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday will be on the city lot off of Baranof Street.

Reminder of the following bus stops relocated on Sawmill Creek Road:

–The Biorka Street bus stop has been relocated to the entrance of the recycling center on Sawmill Creek Road (about 80 feet past the end-of-project location around Jeff Davis Street).

–The Baranof Street bus stop has been relocated to the corner of DeGroff Street and Baranof Street.

The lot on city lot on Baranof Street is shared with Baranof Elementary School staff and residents so please accommodate each other accordingly.

 

Tourism Survey

Now Available

Residents age 18 and older can participate in a brief anonymous survey on  how increased tourism is impacting Sitka.

A team of students from the Pardee RAND Graduate School is assisting the Sitka Sound Science Center and the broader community in understanding these impacts.
