Planned Power

Outage Thursday

The city electric department has  scheduled an outage for 6:15 a.m. Aug. 27 to complete the new Marine Street substation.

The outage will affect some residents, the city said.

‘‘A small group of customers near the Marine Street substation are certain to have an outage of approximately two hours,’’ the department said.

The electric department is requesting that all customers conserve power during the planned activity to limit the size and duration of the outage.

During the event, the transmission system will have limited capabilities. Customers are expected to lose power if citywide conservation efforts are not adhered to, the electric department said.

Excess utilization will require the department to disconnect services to the following areas:  from Sandy Beach to the north end of Halibut Point Road; from just past Allen Marine south to Whale Park; and the north side of Japonski Island. Other areas will be affected as needed, the city said.

Congregation

To Hold Virtual

Convention

Millions of Jehovah’s Witnesses and their invited guests will “attend” a global virtual convention this summer with the theme “Always Rejoice!”

The program is being released in six installments, each corresponding to a morning or afternoon session of what would have been three successive convention days. The final weekend of the

virtual event is scheduled for Aug. 29-30.

Typically held in stadiums, arenas, conference halls and smaller gathering places, the convention was moved to a streaming platform in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Those interested in viewing the convention can contact their local congregation or access the program on JW.org, available under the “Library” tab. There is no charge and no registration for viewing.
