Sitka Tells Tales

Slated to Air

Sitka Tells Tales, the local storytelling series, will present “Six Degrees of Separation: Stories of Unexpected Connections” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, airing and streaming live on KCAW Raven Radio.

The evening of true tales is hosted by Artchange Inc. and Raven Radio. For information and to sign up to be a teller at future events call 738-2174.

 

Buoy Art Auction

Slated for BHV

The Brave Heart Volunteers Buoy Art Auction will be starting soon. Individuals can check out the auction at https://www.32auctions.com/braveheartbuoys2021.

Bidding begins at 1 p.m. Aug. 18 and ends at 1 p.m. on Sept. 1. 

Twenty-three Sitka artists have donated their art to support the work of BHV.

 

Volunteers Sought

For City Boards

Volunteer positions are available on several municipal boards and commissions. 

Currently available are: Animal Hearing Board (category specific seats), Building Department Appeals Board, Historic Preservation Commission (category of at-large) Health Needs and Human Services Commission, Investment Committee, Library Commission, and Tree and Landscape Committee.

Submit a letter of interest and board application to the Municipal Clerk’s Office at 100 Lincoln Street. Applications are available online at www.cityofsitka.com or at the clerk’s office. For information, call Jess Earnshaw at 747-1826 or email clerk@cityofsitka.org.

 

 

Summer Giveaway

Set for Vaccinated

Residents who have received COVID-19 vaccinations can enter the Chamber of Commerce’s Summer Fun Giveaway for a chance to win prizes.

To qualify, Sitka residents must be able to provide proof of vaccination.

Enter at https://bit.ly/3fo60Ad by 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7.

Prizes will be awarded by random drawing at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 11. Prize winners will be contacted by the Sitka Chamber and do not need to be present to win. Prizes not collected by Aug. 18 will be redrawn.

The Sitka Sleeves Up for Summer campaign and prizes were paid for by a grant from the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services and the Alaska Chamber. The grant focuses on spreading awareness for available COVID-19 vaccines, increasing community immunity, and supporting Sitka’s businesses by providing local incentives.

 

 

ANB to Meet to

Nominate Officers

Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 1 will hold its first of three nominations of officers 2-4 p.m. Aug. 9 at the ANB Founders Hall, 235 Katlian Street.

Open positions are president, first vice president, second vice president, camp council, two sergeant-at-arms positions and chaplain.

To nominate and vote, members must be in good standing and have paid-up dues for 2021-22. To pay dues, contact Liz, ANB treasurer, at 738-2836.
