Bean Trial Moved

The jury trial for Aaron Bean, 40, on misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct charges has been rescheduled to November 4.
The trial had been scheduled Sept. 3, but on Aug. 26 Bean’s attorney, Jim McGowan, filed for a continuance, which was also signed by assistant district attorney Amy Paige. Also on Aug. 26, Bean gave notice of intent to raise “self-defense” in the case.
Bean was charged July 24 with assault in the fourth degree and disorderly conduct. The court entered a not guilty plea on Bean’s behalf at his arraignment.
The charges are related to an incident in the early morning hours of July 24 in which police said Bean “recklessly caused injury to another person” and “challenged another to fight or engage in fighting other than self-defense.” According to the probable cause statement in court documents, Bean told police he was attacked by a man so he “threw him down and knocked him out.” The criminal complaint said the man was taken to the hospital, and told police he received lacerations on his face, was diagnosed as having a concussion, but didn’t remember being assaulted.
On the disorderly conduct charge, police said in the criminal complaint that while a police sergeant was at the scene, Bean threatened the sergeant “that he would ‘drop’ him and ‘knock’ him ‘out.’”
