Bear Growls At Hiker, Dog

Posted

By Sentinel Staff
An aggressive brown bear approached and growled at a hiker and her dog on Thimbleberry-Heart Lake trail this morning, Sitka Conservation Society Director Andrew Thoms said.
The bear then returned to the woods, said Thoms, who got the information from the hiker.
The hiker and her dog were unharmed, and the encounter was reported to the Department of Fish and Game.
The department asks that hikers report unwanted wildlife encounters to the ADF&G office at (907) 747-8449.
Local and state authorities are encouraging residents to keep their trash indoors until the morning of pickup.
