A 20-year-old man riding a bicycle inbound in the 2600 block of Halibut Point Road was killed this morning when he was struck by a car traveling in the opposite direction, police said.
Terry Carlson Jr. was taken to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.
In a news release police said they received a report at 6:15 a.m. of a hit-and-run between a motor vehicle and a bicyclist.
Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored Jeep traveling outbound cross the center line into the inbound lane and strike the bike rider, police said.
“The vehicle then drove off, leaving the cyclist lying on the side of the roadway. Officers were able to determine the make of the vehicle from debris at the crash site and located the vehicle that had damage consistent with the collision,” the news release said.
Police said the investigation is continuing and information, including the name of the suspected driver, will be released as it becomes available.
