A 16-year-old bike rider was injured Monday afternoon when he hit the side of a pickup headed to town on Lincoln Street.
Sitka Police Sgt. Brad Wheeler said the teen was conscious when an ambulance took him to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center.
The boy had been riding his bike down a walkway on the Sheldon Jackson campus apparently headed toward the Jeff Davis Street crosswalk when he ran into the passing Chevy pickup, Wheeler said. The impact left a dent in the vehicle, but the bike wasn’t damaged, he said. The boy was not wearing a helmet.
Vegetation hindered the views of both the bike rider and the driver, Wheeler added.
