A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter crew rescued a hunter Saturday after he became separated from his hunting party Saturday near Klawock.
Irving Langmaid, 63, of Klawock, was reported overdue to Alaska State Troopers at 4:16 p.m. by fellow hunters, who said they hadn’t seen him since around 9 a.m. The Coast Guard crew launched at 8 p.m. and found him around 8:37 p.m. Coast Guard infrared video footage shows the hunter walking and waving to the helicopter from a muskeg-covered area.
Langmaid was hoisted into the helicopter, flown to Klawock, and taken for a medical evaluation at the local clinic, troopers said. The helicopter returned to Sitka a few hours later, the Coast Guard said.
