Sitka Historical Society and Museum announced the winners today of the Alaska Day Brisket Cook-off.
Hal Spackman, executive director of the nonprofit organization, said the event was a huge success, with eight 15-pound briskets entered in the contest, and some 300 servings sold from 12 briskets.
The competition was part of the organization’s fundraising Brew Fest, now in its fifth year.
“This event continues to grow in popularity,” Spackman said. “In fact, brisket plates were so popular this year, competitors sold completely out of brisket in less than 45 minutes, even though we had twice as much brisket available to sell as we did in 2019.”

He added a special thanks to Vince Winters and his AC Lakeside Team, Jon and Jenn Barton, Taylor Scott-Moelder and Robert Moelder, and Jamie and Jenn Steinson for cooking two briskets, so more brisket plates could be offered for sale. Spackman also gave another “big thanks” to AC Lakeside for “providing outstanding briskets for the contest.
“Finally, thanks to Brandon Saiz for coordinating this year’s judging,” Spackman said.
