Sitka’s daily COVID cases continued to wane, with just 1 new positive test added to the dashboard on Tuesday.
Cases per day, for the last seven days, and the new case rate can be found at cityofsitka.org. The number of cases for each day back to August 1, 2020, can be reached by clicking on the case rate in red under Community Metrics.
Today it said 117.33. That figure leaves Sitka in “high” risk, the same range since early July. Sitka had 10 cases in the last week.
Under the new case rate and risk levels, Sitka aligned itself with the state Section of Epidemiology. The case rate is now weekly cases per 100,000, and 100 or more per week per 100,000 is “high.” Sitka’s population is around 8,500.
The case rate can be calculated by the number of cases in the past week, divided by 8,500, and multiplied by 100,000. Sitka would hit a “low” risk range with no cases in a week. Other risk levels in the state four-tier alert system are “moderate,” “substantial” and “high.”
Sitka’s vaccination rates are continuing to rise slowly, with 6,094 “partially vaccinated” (82.5 percent); and 5,872 (79.51 percent) “fully vaccinated.” Some 85 percent of the 65 and up population is fully vaccinated, according to the state Department of Health and Social Services.
