Virtual Holiday

Concert Dec. 20

Sitka Fine Arts Camp Holiday Brass and the Juneau Symphony are teaming up to present a family virtual concert of Holiday Cheer featuring brass and string ensembles of holiday favorites.

The concert premieres 3 p.m. Dec. 20, and can be viewed for two weeks.

A pre-concert lecture is available 2:30 p.m. Dec. 20.

 

Tickets are $30 a household. Additional gift purchases are $15 a household. A portion of proceeds will support Sitka Fine Arts Camp scholarships. Visit juneausymphony.org to purchase tickets or call 907-586-4676.

 

Armchair Travels

Speaker Series Set

The first event in Sitka Public Library’s Armchair Travels Speaker Series is scheduled 7 p.m. tonight, via Zoom.

 

Kathryn Winslow will give a presentation on her 2016 trip to the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, where she helped to uncover tombs at archaeological sites. Registration is required. To sign up, call the library at 747-4020 or email margot.oconnell@cityofsitka.org.

 

Babies and Books

Event Saturday

Sitka Babies and Books will offer  a new curbside program made possible by a grant from Sitka Legacy Foundation, an affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation.

The first pick-up event will be 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 19, at Sitka Public Library.

The Story Art program has been designed for ages 1 to 4 years to spark imagination, creativity and lifelong connections with books, organizers said. Participants will get a bag with a free book and supplies to work on a project focused on the book.

Story Art will be offered every two months. Call the library at 747-4020 to register a child, and reserve a book and bag with art supplies. 

 

White E Shop

Adds New Days

The White Elephant will be open additional days for holiday shoppers – at noon on Friday, Dec. 18, and Wednesday, Dec. 23.

 

The shop will be closed Dec. 24-26. The shop asks that donations be held during that time to allow volunteers a restful holiday.
