For Jill Johnson
Services for Jill Johnson will be held 11 a.m. Jan. 3, at Sitka Lutheran Church. A reception will follow.
Jill, a longtime Sitkan, was medevacked Christmas Day to Seattle, where she died on Dec. 27. She was 75.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Johnson, and her children, Amy Jacobs, Mary Johnson and John Johnson.
An obituary will be published next week.
T’ai Chi Chih
Class Jan. 14
An eight-week T’ai Chi Chih class will be offered 5-6:15 p.m. Mondays beginning Jan. 14 at the Pioneers Home Chapel.
T’ai Chi Chih is a moving meditation that was developed from T’ai Chi Chuan so that it is easy to learn and to practice, organizers said.
T’ai Chi Chih does not require any particular physical strength and can even be learned while sitting on a chair. For more information, call Martina Kurzer, who is an accredited teacher of this form, at 738-0161, or visit www.taichichih.org.
White E Closure
The White Elephant Shop will be closed Monday, Dec. 31, in observance of New Year’s. It will reopen noon-3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3.

Board to Meet
Sitka Homeless Coalition board will meet 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Sitka Public Library.
The meeting is open to the public.
Sitka City Clerk
Named President
Of Alaska Board
Sitka Municipal Clerk Sara Peterson, MMC, ascended to president of the Alaska Association of Municipal Clerks at its annual meeting Nov. 13 in Anchorage. Her term extends to November 2019.
AAMC was incorporated in 1965 and has a membership of more than 100 clerks throughout the state. The organization works to provide continuing education, to promote professionalism in the office of the municipal clerk, to foster relationships among clerks throughout the state, and to support sound local government.
Peterson began her career with the city 10 years ago, and she was appointed municipal clerk in 2015. She has received both her Certified Municipal Clerk and Master Municipal Clerk designations through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
Peterson has served as first and second vice president of the AAMC Executive Board and has been a member of various AAMC committees throughout the years.
Brown Bear
Season to End
The fall brown bear permit hunts RB077 and DB077 in Unit 4 – Admiralty, Baranof and Chichagof islands – will end Dec. 31.
Successful hunters must submit hunt reports within 10 days of the date of kill and have the bear sealed within 30 days.
Unsuccessful hunters and hunters who registered but did not hunt must return completed hunt reports to the Fish and Game office in Sitka by close of business Jan. 15, or report online at www.hunt.alaska.gov. All hunters who received permits must submit reports, even if they did not hunt.
