Harp Sing Set
All are invited to join in singing four-part a capella harmony sacred harp Christmas music 3:30-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Sitka Long-Term Care facility.

Fundraiser Set
Delta Kappa Gamma Iota Chapter will hold its annual Santa Sale fundraiser 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the home of Jan Love.

Range Officer
Training on Tap
Sitka Sportsman’s Association will offer a free Range Safety Officer training course 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Sitka Sportsman’s Association, 5211 Halibut Point Road.
Training is designed to prepare experienced shooters for the basic safety and duties performed as a RSO. Sitka Sportsman’s Association is a non-profit organization which relies on its volunteers to remain open.
The course is being offered at no cost for anyone who has a desire to assist the association in conducting indoor and outdoor shooting activities. Students must be current members of the association, hold a valid Shooter’s Insurance Card, be 21 or older, and be willing to volunteer two to three hours of their time to run the indoor or outdoor range at least once every two months, the association said.
The training consists of: two-hour safety class by Premier Training of Alaska; outdoor range tasks involving the trap and skeet houses; and desk duties.

FAFSA Event
At Pacific High
Pacific High School and UAS-Sitka Campus will host an after-school FAFSA event 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at Pacific High.
All district students and parents/guardians are invited to learn about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Those planning to attend should take Alaska state IDs, their most recent tax documents, and W-2s or other income statements.

Holiday Brass
Concert Dec. 21
The Sitka Fine Arts Camp will present its annual Holiday Brass Concert 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Sitka Performing Arts Center.

Group Bike Ride
Set for Saturday
The Sitka Cycling Club will host its 10th consecutive monthly group ride 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Salty Spoke bike co-op (accessed by riding to the back of the Hames Center, below the recycling center).
The ride will consist of a one-hour Cross Trail excursion and end at this month’s featured bike-friendly business, Spinning Moon Apothecary.

SAFV Seeking
Volunteer Help
Those having some extra free time and wanting to give back to the community may consider volunteering at Sitkans Against Family Violence.
SAFV currently is in need of help decorating the shelter for the holidays, wrapping gifts, preparing and donating food for the client holiday party on Dec. 17, and other seasonal tasks.
Additionally, help is needed Dec. 14 at Centennial Hall for the Boys Run I toowú klatseen 5K community fun run. Volunteers can be a running buddy, set up, clean up, or cheer on runners along the race course through Sitka National Historical Park.

Dinner, Party
Set for Legion
The American Legion will have its Christmas dinner party for members and invied guests 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will hand out presents. Parents should sign up their children, ages 0-12 years, at the club.

Crescent Harbor
Power to be Cut
In preparation for the demolition of Crescent Harbor, electricity to floats 5 through 7 will be shut down 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12.

Chamber to Meet
St. Michael’s Cathedral will host a special luncheon and a behind-the-scenes tour to view the latest renovations happening at the cathedral.
Attendees should enter through the cathedral’s main doors, and will be guided to the lower level to the renovated banquet room and multi-purpose hall.
The meal is being catered by the Sitka Hotel and will feature a choice of three freshly made soups, salad and garlic bread.
Following lunch, Pete Hagan will lead the group on a behind-the-scenes tour of the cathedral. Hagan is at the epicenter of the cathedral’s renovation and will share his knowledge, experiences and excitement for every inch of the historic building. Future plans about the extensive refurbishment will be discussed.
