SE Waterfowl

Season to Close

The Southeast Alaska waterfowl season, which includes Game Management Units 1-4, will close at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021.

The closure date falls earlier than last year to align with waterfowl regulation changes approved by the Board of Game during the 2019 Southeast Alaska Board of Game meeting.

The board decided to implement alternating season schedules as a compromise to appease hunters wishing for more opportunities to harvest not only early, but also late season waterfowl species. Under the regulation change, odd years have a season that runs from Sept. 1 to Dec. 16. Even years will have a season that runs from Sept. 16 to Dec. 31.

Hunters who participated in the WU001 registration hunt on the Mendenhall Wetlands are to report harvests and efforts on the wetlands before Dec. 31.
