Sitka police said the preliminary investigation of a stabbing Sunday indicates it was a “‘road rage’ altercation which violently escalated.”
Robert B. Alderman, 58, of Sitka was arrested for assault in the first degree, and a 61-year-old Sitka man with a serious stabbing injury was taken to the hospital, police said. Alderman posted $25,000 bail and was released today.
In a news release police said that shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday a police officer was called to Halibut Point Road in front of the skate park where two men, both of whom had stopped at the traffic light, were having a fistfight.
“Upon arrival the police officer saw that one of the adult men had stabbed the other adult man, just below his neck, above his shoulder with a folding knife,” the news release said.
The officer placed Alderman under arrest and applied basic first aid to the victim until an ambulance arrived.
“Preliminary investigation shows that this was a ‘road rage’ altercation which violently escalated. Investigation continues,” the news release said.
The condition of the injured man today was not available.
