By Sentinel Staff

A man was charged with driving under the influence early this morning after striking stairs, a porch and a vehicle in the 400 block of Katlian Street. Three passengers were taken by ambulances to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center with apparently minor injuries, police said.

Calan Putman, 24, who gave a Juneau address, was driving a 1999 Dodge pickup, which police said was totaled in the crash.

Police reported getting a call at 2:38 a.m. today that a vehicle headed outbound had “taken out” stairs and a porch at 420 Katlian, then crossed the street and hit an SUV parked near 429 Katlian.

Putman, who was arrested after the accident, remained in the Sitka jail this afternoon.

Officers who were called to the crash are expected to file a full report of the accident and an estimate of damages tonight, police said.
