Kaagwaantaan Meet

The Kaagwaantaan will meet 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in room 114 at Blatchley Middle School to talk about joining the Elizabeth Peratrovich celebration on Feb. 16 (the next day) and what songs to sing. 

Clan business also will be discussed.

Bake Sale Set

For Friday

Noow Tlein Dancers will hold a bake sale 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Sea Mart.

The fundraiser will be by donation. The group is raising funds to attend Celebration 2020.

 

Natural Resource

Committee Meets

The Sitka Tribe of Alaska’s Natural Resource Committee will meet 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in the Resource Protection Department offices located at 429 Katlian Street.

School Board Sets

Budget Meetings

The Sitka School Board will host public school budget meetings through April 22. The schedule follows.

–Feb. 13, 3:45 p.m., budget hearing with staff, Keet Gooshi Heen.

–Feb. 19, 6 p.m., community budget hearing, Sitka High library.

–March 30, 6 p.m., budget work session, Sitka High library.

–April 6, 6 p.m., budget hearing, Sitka High library.

–April 9, 6 p.m. budget work session, Sitka High library.

–April 22, 6 p.m., final budget hearing and budget approval, Sitka High library.

 

Chamber to Meet

Sitka Fine Arts Camp Executive Director Roger Schmidt will speak at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon noon Wednesday at Westmark Sitka.

Schmidt will provide updates on upcoming events.

 

Keet Family Night

Slated Wednesday

Keet Family Night will be 5-6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the school. It will include a chili feed and activities.

 

Tribal Council

Meets Feb. 19

Sitka Tribe of Alaska Tribal Council will meet 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi.

The council will hear the first reading of the proposed amendments to the Children’s Code. Those wishing to make a public comment are being encouraged to attend. Written comment can be sent via email to Anne.Davis@sitkatribe-nsn.gov.

Copies of the proposed amendments to the Children’s Code can be emailed directly or be reviewed at the STA Administration office at 456 Katlian Street. 

 

Small Quilt

Auction on Tap

Ocean Wave Quilters Guild will hold its 22nd annual small quilt and related items auction 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Harrigan Centennial Hall.

All can participate in a timed silent auction for mini quilts along with a second silent and an outcry auction for other quilt- and sewing-related items and collectibles.

Credit cards and checks are accepted and refreshments served.

All proceeds go toward scholarships awarded to Sitka, Mt. Edgecumbe and Pacific high school seniors and Sitka Fine Arts Camp.
