School Board Sets
Budget Hearing
The Sitka School Board will hold a community hearing session for the Sitka School District 2022-23 budget 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Centennial Hall. An introduction to the budget will be presented, followed by an opportunity for community input.
Raffle Tickets

Raffle tickets can now be purchased online for an original quilt, titled “A Beacon Bright,” by Sitka artist Joanna Perensovich, and two other prizes.
It is a fundraiser for the Sitka Maritime Heritage Society. A total of 500 tickets will be sold at $20 each and can be purchased online (by Alaska residents) at sitkamaritime.org.
The quilt can be seen, and tickets can also be purchased, at Abby’s Reflection on Lincoln Street. The original work of art measures 64 inches wide by 52 inches high.
Other prizes are a framed art print of the HMS Resolution by marine artist Steve Mayo and a handheld VHF radio, donated by LFS Marine. The drawing will be conducted by the Sitka Elks Lodge 1662, Permit #7, and the drawing will be held March 24 at the lodge. Need not be present to win. Spring Soccer
Registration Open
Registration is open for the spring soccer season for all youths in kindergarten through 12th grades.
Practices and games will be on Sundays, March 27-May 15, excluding Easter Sunday, at Upper Moller Field.
The schedule will be: grades K-1, 4:15-5 p.m.; grades 2-3, 4:15-5:15 p.m.; grades 4-6, 5:30-6:45 p.m.; and grades 7-12, 5:30-7 p.m.
‘‘You can register your child at sitkayouthsoccer.com. The registration cost is $40. If you did not participate in the fall or winter seasons, there will be an added charge of $35 to cover the cost of your kit,’’ organizers said.
