SFS, Coliseum

Host Oscar Fest

Feb. 25-March 2

Sitka Film Society and Coliseum Theater will hold an Oscars film festival, February 25 through March 2 at the Coliseum.

Movies and show times are:

‘‘The Fabelmans’’ – 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25. Nominated for Best Picture, Director, Actress, Screenplay. Rated PG-13.

‘‘Argentina, 1985’’ – 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 26. Nominated for Best International Feature. Rated R.

Short Documentary Films, Part I – 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27. ‘‘How to Measure a Year’’ (USA); ‘‘The Elephant Whisperers’’ (India); ‘‘Stranger at the Gate’’ (USA).

Short Documentary Films, Part 2 – 5 p.m. Thursday, March 2: ‘‘Haulout’’ (UK); ‘‘The Martha Mitchell Effect’’ (USA).

Tickets are $10 at Old Harbor Books.

 

Title VIII Discussed

At Public Hearing

A Title VIII-Impact Aid, BP 6174.1 Education of Native/Indian Children, consultation, planning and development public hearing will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the ANB Founders Hall during the Sitka School Board meeting.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Student and staff recognitions will take place at 5:45 p.m., before the School Board meeting begins.

Ash Wednesday

Service Feb. 22

Contemplative Ash Wednesday services will be held 5:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the United Methodist Church of Sitka, 303 Kimsham Street.

The theme for Lent 2023 is ‘‘Unplugged: Connected to the Source.’’

 

North Neva

Shelter Open

The North Neva Shelter is available for public use after USDA Forest Service sawyers removed a fallen spruce tree from the roof overhang. Wind in January caused the large spruce to be thrown onto the corner of the three-sided shelter.

The Sitka Ranger District is still assessing when the damage to the roof can be repaired, but has determined the facility safe to use in its current condition. The shelter is located approximately 20 miles north of Sitka.

STE Job Fair

Set for Friday

Sitka Tribal Enterprises will hold a Job Fair 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at the Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi, 200 Katlian Street.

Sets Open Hours
