Painting Buoys
Subject of Series
A Zoom series to focus on painting buoys with acrylic paints will be Feb. 18 and March 4.
Pat Kehoe, of Island Artists Gallery, will lead the discussion and welcomes input from all artists. Those unable to paint a buoy can paint along on a flat surface.
Kehoe will talk about aspects of a good composition and how they apply to painting on a round surface. Contact islandpainter@hotmail.com for more information, for a hard buoy, and for a Zoom invite.
To paint along, artists will need ideas, a couple pieces of any kind of paper roughly the size of the circumference of the buoy, scissors, a few tubes of acrylic paint, and inexpensive brushes. Those who need a buoy or more info about the project can contact Kehoe ahead of time via email.
“Painting Flat Art on a Round Surface” is a project in support of one of Sitka’s non-profit organizations, Brave Heart Volunteers.
Artists will provide painted buoys that will hang downtown to brighten the main street of Sitka through the summer and then will be auctioned to earn funds for Brave Heart Volunteers in the fall. The theme for this special 20-year celebration is “Be of Brave Heart,” and they are asking the theme to be interpreted in any way in the design of the buoys.
