Traveling Gallery Exhibit
To be in Sitka During March
Portable Southeast, a traveling gallery exhibit celebrating coastal living in Southeast Alaska, will be in Sitka March 3-30, hosted by Harbor Mountain Brewery.
Portable Southeast, a curated traveling art exhibit inspired by life in coastal Southeast Alaska, features 25 works of art from S.E. artists.
The opening night exhibit in Sitka is 3-8 p.m. Friday, March 3, at 1209 Sawmill Creek Road.
Accepted exhibit artists, in no particular order, include: Abigail Saiz (Juneau, now of Sitka); Amanda Neyenhouse (Douglas); Anne Doyle (Sitka); Christine Kleinhenz (Juneau); Ellie Sharman (Gustavus); Hollis Kitchin (Juneau); Kathryn Rousso (Ketchikan); Katie Ione Craney (Haines); Kelsey Hoke Martin (Juneau); Kerry Kirkpatrick (Juneau); Krystal Thomas (Ketchikan); Lanie McCarry (Douglas); Liyuan Zhang (Juneau); Mandy Ramsey (Haines); Mary Saiz (Sitka); Mimi Kotlarov (Ketchikan); Naona “Peaches” Wallin (Ketchikan); Pam Joy (Skagway); Rebecca Hsieh (Juneau); and Suzanne Fuqua (Petersburg).
The show builds virtual bridges between communities – offering new opportunities for artists to showcase their work, and bringing art to non-traditional hanging spaces, organizers said.
The show is spending a month in six communities. It was in Ketchikan in January and Petersburg in February. After Sitka, it will be in Haines in April, Yakutat in May, and Juneau in June.
The call for art was open to all Southeast Alaska residents, and five curators from across the region reviewed submissions and accepted pieces into the final show.
It was curated by a diverse group of community leaders and artists including: arts administrator Cindi Lagoudakis of the Clausen Memorial Museum in Petersburg; visual artist Evon Zerbetz of Ketchikan; visual artist Krista Perala of Sitka; visual artist Donna Catotti of Haines; and arts administrator Cory Woodall of the Juneau City Museum in Juneau.
Those with questions about the Sitka exhibit can call Harbor Mountain Brewery at 907-623-2337.
The project was made possible with support from the Alaska State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Portable Southeast is managed by the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council (JAHC).
