Herring Rock
Blessing March 15
The Kiks.adi Clan invites other tribes, local clans and the general public to a brief Herring Rock ceremony 4 p.m. March 15.
A traditional blessing will be offered to honor the Herring Rock, to provide well-wishes for successful spring harvests of herring and herring eggs, and to memorialize individuals and uphold families who have lost family or friends due to their recent passing, organizers said.
Attendees are requested to wear masks and social distance for COVID-19 safety protocols.
School Board
Meets March 2
Sitka School Board will 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at the Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi. A video with several members of the Gajaa Heen Dancers performing will be shown prior to the meeting at 5:40 p.m.
Per building regulations, the audience will be limited to 40 members. Masks are required and a temperature check will be performed upon entry.
Artists Sought
Artists with an interest in helping Brave Heart Volunteers are being sought to transform hard plastic buoys into works of art.

Water Flushing
Schedule Given
The City and Borough of Sitka water department has scheduled its annual flushing of the distribution mains for March 2 through March 11.
The routine maintenance activity may cause localized low pressures and/or cloudy water for a short period of time.
‘‘Should your water become cloudy, simply run your cold water until it clears,’’ the city said. ‘‘This process does not create any health issues and is standard procedure.’’
The dates and locations to be included during this maintenance are:
–March 2, outer Lincoln Street;
–March 3, Monastery Street and Verstovia Street neighborhoods;
–March 4, Sawmill Creek Road;
–March 7, Sawmill Creek Road;
–March 8, downtown area;
–March 9, Edgecumbe Drive, Halibut Point Road and side streets off HPR;
–March 10, Edgecumbe Drive, HPR and side streets off HPR; and
–March 11, Japonski Island.

School Board Invites
Written Testimony
The Sitka School Board will begin receiving formal written public testimony for each of its regularly scheduled meetings.
Individuals can email comments to schoolboard@sitkaschools.org, subject: “Public Testimony.” Written public testimony is accepted for both action and non-action/non-agenda items and is subject to the same regulations as oral testimony (BB 9323), the board said. It will not be read aloud during board meetings but will be compiled and available online with each month’s meeting agenda. Submitted written testimony will become part of the meeting record.
