Sitkans Appointed

To State Boards

Three Sitkans have been named to state boards and commissions, Gov. Mike Dunleavy has announced.

Mark Buggins was reappointed to the state Water and Wastewater Works Advisory Board. His term is April 18 through April 18, 2025.

Richard Wein is appointed to the Medical Board through March 1, 2024.

Pamela Steffes has been reappointed to the Board of Examiners in Optometry through March 1, 2024.

 

 

On Dean’s List

Two Sitkans have been named to the dean’s list at Clarkson University, Potsdam, N.Y., for the fall term.

Connor Buxton, a junior in mathematics, and Tabor Buxton, a freshman software engineer major, earned placement.

They are the sons of Ken and Kelly Buxton of Sitka.

 

Philippines Family

Day Slated March 7

The Sitka School District is seeking volunteers and activities for a family day to celebrate the Philippines to be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School.

Call or text Kari at 752-7323 for information on how to become involved. Activities and volunteers are needed.

 

ANS to Meet

Alaska Native Sisterhood, Camp 4, will meet noon Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the ANB Founders Hall. All are welcome to attend. Membership dues are $12 a year. For information call Nancy at (907) 227-9102.

 

Run, Walk Benefit

For Food Pantry

The Stride 365 5K run/walk on Saturday, March 7, will begin at the O’Connell Bridge lightering facility. Registration is at 9 a.m.; the event is at 9:30 a.m.

The event is in observance of National Nutrition Month and proceeds go to Sitka Tribe of Alaska’s food pantry.

 

The suggested registration fee is $10.
