David Bowie

Tribute Slated

Sitka Fine Arts Camp will present ‘‘Modern Love: An Alaskan Tribute to David Bowie’’ 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, and Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Sitka Performing Arts Center.

Sam Faustine, who performed in the camp’s Queen Tribute and Van Halen Tribute, will again join the musicians from Smokestack Music Productions to present the highlights of Bowie’s career from Space Oddity to Ziggy Stardust to Lazarus.

It will feature full costumes, lights, sound and saxophones.

‘‘Put on some eyeliner, your finest sequined clothing, and let’s dance,’’ organizers said. Tickets are available at www.fineartscamp.org/shows. For information call 747-3085.

 

School Budget

Is Meeting Topic

Members of the Sitka School District School Board will hold a community hearing session regarding the 2024 Sitka School District budget 6 p.m. Feb. 9 at Centennial Hall. The public is invited to attend.

 

Special Meeting

For School Board

The Sitka School District School Board will hold a special meeting 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Centennial Hall.

Members will discuss Superintendent Frank Hauser’s resignation, effective June 30, and the initiation of a new superintendent search.

 

Bike Meeting

On Wednesday

The Sitka Cycling Club will hold its monthly meeting noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the BEAK restaurant.

SCT Calls for

Set Builders,

Props Crew

GSAC Sitka Community Theater is looking for those interested in joining the props and set team for the upcoming musical “Amelie,” 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays, every week, at the Performing Arts Center.

Stay as long or as little as you like. Treats and coffee will served.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about how sets and props are built, and can sign up for particular assignments. People of all skills and abilities are needed.

The entrance to the building is in the Performer Entrance in back of Sitka High School, between the school and the PAC. Those who are not able to attend can sign up to be included on the call list for future assignments and work parties, by calling or texting 907-738-0602.

 

Wileman Studio

Piano Recital Set

Wileman Music Studio will present a piano recital 2 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Sitka Performing Arts Center. The public is invited.
