DDF Team to Show Talents
By SHANNON HAUGLAND
Sentinel Staff Writer
Sitkans will get a glimpse of some of the highest-scoring drama and forensics pieces from this year, at the annual DDF showcase at the Performing Arts Center.
The event is a fundraiser for the state-champion Sitka High drama, debate and forensics team.
Coach Christian Litten said the team is eager to return to Anchorage this year to defend its titles in sweepstakes, drama and debate categories, and perhaps capture another, for forensics.
The showcase is 7:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at the Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a chili dinner and dessert. The event is free but donations will be accepted for the team’s travel to the meet Feb. 22-24 in Anchorage.
Litten, in his third year of coaching the team, said he planned the program with entertainment in mind.
“We will do very little serious stuff, mostly funny stuff,” he said.
Three reader’s theater pieces, one solo, a humorous interpretation of literature piece, an informative speech on pandemics and perhaps a duet about siblings, featuring siblings, are all in the lineup.
Litten said he and co-coach Amy Ainslie have enjoyed working with this group of kids.
“It’s their ability to work together and get along,” Litten said. “They’re all kids who care about each other and themselves. They take pride in what they do. The hard work, when it’s there, pays off and they know it.”
