For ‘Donny’ Petro
Funeral services for Donald “Donny” Blair Petro are scheduled noon Wednesday, February 9, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, 605 Lincoln Street, followed by interment and last rites at the Sitka Memorial Park loop shelter at 803 Sawmill Creek Road.
Donny was born April 3, 1955, to Robert Petro and Margaret (Hope) Petro during a family trip to Detroit, Michigan. He left this world suddenly on January 27, 2022, in Sitka at the age of 66.
Sitka’s Goeden
On Dean’s List
Joshua Goeden of Sitka has been selected to the University of Jamestown’s fall 2021 dean’s list for maintaining a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better.
The University of Jamestown is located at Jamestown, North Dakota, and was established in 1883.
The 2017 Sitka High graduate is the son of Kelly and Chad Goeden.
Rainy Day Bazaar
Tables Available
The U.S. Coast Guard Spouses and Women’s Association will hold its annual Rainy Day Bazaar 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Centennial Hall.
Tables are $40 if applications are completed by March 5. Table applications are at the Association’s new website, www.sitkacgswa.org.

Innovation
Contest Slated
The Sitka Local Foods Network will host the fifth annual Sitka Food Business Innovation Contest in an effort to spark local food entrepreneurs so more local food is available to residents and visitors.
The contest entry deadline is March 18.
This contest will provide two $1,500 kicker prizes to help entrepreneurs launch or expand their food businesses. All food business ideas must be geared toward getting locally grown, harvested and/or produced food into the Sitka marketplace through sales in grocery stores, the Sitka Food Co-Op, the Sitka Farmers Market, restaurants, or individual marketing.
All participants (business and individual) must complete and submit our contest entry form and $25 registration fee by 5 p.m. March 18 to Sitka Local Foods Network, Food Business Innovation Contest Entries, 408-D Marine Street, Sitka, Alaska, 99835, or by email with the Subject Line of “Food Business Innovation Contest Entries” to sitkalocalfoodsnetwork@gmail.com). Submitting a business plan (up to 20 pages) is recommended, but not required.
