Triska See, 34, was arraigned today on charges relating to the death of a man who died when a car See was driving ran off the ferry terminal parking lot and into the ocean.
A grand jury indicted See Thursday on charges of murder in the second degree (an unclassified felony), manslaughter (a Class A felony), assault in the third degree (a Class C felony), and driving under the influence (a Class A misdemeanor). She was arrested Thursday on a warrant, and taken into custody.
See allegedly was the driver of a vehicle that ran off the edge of the pavement and into the water near the ferry terminal the evening of Nov. 1, 2019. See and another woman in the front seat were able to escape; Thomas A. Fuller, 59, who was in the back seat, did not escape, and was pronounced dead at the scene after divers recovered his body.
At the arraignment today, See entered a plea of not guilty, with bail set at $25,000 by Superior Court Judge Jude Pate. A trial was scheduled to start May 5.
In the indictment under the charge of murder in the second degree, See is alleged to have “knowingly engaged in conduct that resulted in the death of another person under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life.” Conviction carries a sentence of 15 to 99 years.
The charge of manslaughter alleges that See “recklessly caused the death of another person.” Sentences range from 7 to 11 years. The charge of assault in the third degree alleges she “recklessly caused physical injury to another person by means of a dangerous instrument.” Sentences range from 0 to 2 years. Conviction on the DUI charge carries a sentence of up to a year.
After hearing arguments from Assistant District Attorney Amy Williams, Pate set bail at $25,000 ($10,000 appearance bond and $15,000 performance bond). If released, See is to be supervised by the pre-trial enforcement officer, and submit to drug and alcohol testing. She is to make all court appearances and follow court orders. She is not to contact anyone involved in the accident, Fuller’s family or anyone on the list of witnesses in the indictment. She is not to enter bars or liquor stores, consume or possess alcohol or controlled substances, drive unless licensed, or leave Sitka without written court permission, among other conditions.
See was represented today by public defender Robert Curran.
