Sitka police are asking for the public’s help in identifying four suspects believed to have set a fire in Crescent Harbor Friday night.
Police and fire departments received a 911 call at 11:25 p.m. Friday reporting a boat appeared to be on fire in Crescent Harbor, police said in a news release today.
Responding officers “quickly determined that it was Float 4, and not a vessel, that was on fire.” No estimate of damage to the dock was available today, but police said no boats were damaged.
Police reviewed security video of the area and “were able to determine that four individuals had set the fire,” the department said. Still shots from the video released with the news release show fuzzy images of four running figures on the dock.
Police said the arson resulted “in a fireball explosion that caused the float and the water surrounding it to catch fire.”
Those with information are asked to call police at 907-747-3245, or use the anonymous crime line at 907-747-8980.
“Hopefully this will lead to us catching the suspects,” SPD Chief Robert Baty said.
