Power went out on Galankin Island and smaller surrounding islands at 1 p.m. Wednesday, and was fully restored by 10:38 p.m., the electric department reported.
A city news release said the seven-hour outage was caused by a cable failure, and power was restored after repairs by the electric department.
There were two momentary power interruptions in central Sitka Wednesday afternoon, but information wasn’t available today about whether they were related to the island blackout. Public and Government Relations Director Melissa Henshaw said the city departments she contacted today received no reports of the power “blips.”
“The City and Borough of Sitka thanks our customers for their patience and understanding,” the city news release said.
