The ice on Swan Lake is only 3 inches thick, the fire hall reported early this afternoon.
Fire Chief Dave Miller said he can’t say when the ice is thick enough to be safe for skating, but as of 1:30 p.m. today he wasn’t recommending it.
The thickness today is the same as Monday, he noted.
Measurements are taken in a few different places, at 20, 50 and 100 feet from shore.
“It’s the same thickness all over,” he said. He added the ice is markedly thinner close to the inflow and outflow locations.
Low temperatures dropped into the 20s last Thursday, and the highs have been mainly in the mid 30s since then. The forecast for tonight is for a low of 34 with snow.
