Absentee in-person voting for the special primary for Alaska’s U.S. Representative opens Friday at Blatchley Middle School.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday through June 10. No voting will be held on Monday, May 30, the Memorial Day holiday.
On the ballot are the names of 48 candidates who have filed to fill the seat of Congressman Don Young, who died March 18 while returning to Alaska from Washington, D.C.
The top four vote-getters from the special primary will face off in the special general election on August 16, which is ranked-choice voting, election officials said.
The regular primary election also is August 16. Voting officials will have information at a later time about how the two elections will be conducted.
Mail-in ballots for the by-mail election for the special primary were sent out in late April, and must be postmarked by June 11. Those who have not received a by-mail ballot may contact the Division of Elections. The website has a feature “Track Your Ballot.”
Those with questions about the mail-in special primary may call the Division of Elections at 907-465-4611.
