Fiber Friends

Meet Jan. 19

Fiber Friends will meet noon-2 p.m. Jan. 19 in the Gus Adams room at Sitka Public Library. 

All weavers, spinners, dyers and others who work with fiber are welcome. Bring your ideas and enthusiasm and your projects for show and tell. For more information phone Alice at 747-3931.

 

School Board

Work Session On

Members of the Sitka School Board will meet for a work session 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Sitka High School library.

The topic will be self-insurance. The work session is open to the public. No School Board action will be taken.

 

Nutrition Talk

At Public Library

Community members are invited to attend a talk by Holly Marban, nutritional health coach, about nutrition and hydration tips for older adults 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Sitka Public Library.

Women’s March

Slated Jan. 19

The Women’s Wave March will be 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at the Crescent Harbor shelter.

Participants can wear red in solidarity with missing and murdered indigenous women.

WIC Available

To Help During

Gov’t. Shutdown

SEARHC WIC is open for business and can help those affected by the government shutdown.

Those who have a child under the age of 5, or are pregnant, can call 623-0942 for an appointment.

The office is open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and Fridays by appointment only. WIC can help with supplemental nutritional food and nutrition education.

 

F/V Drill Conductor

Training in Sitka

The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer a fishing vessel drill conductor class 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at NSRAA, 1308 Sawmill Creek Road.

The class is free to commercial fishermen, with support from the U.S. Coast Guard, the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and AMSEA members.

The cost is $185.50, including sales tax, for all others. Register online at www.amsea.org or call 747-3287.

 

Sitka Orchestra

An informational meeting and first rehearsal on the Sitka Community Orchestra will be 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Blatchley music room. It is open to the public.

Council to Meet

 

Sitka Tribe of Alaska’s regular monthly Tribal Council meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Sheet’ká Ḵwáan Naa Kahídi. Those with questions can contact STA at 747-3207.
