ANS to Meet

Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 will gather for a regular business meeting 1 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Swan Lake Terrace senior housing, 414 Hollywood Way in the commons area.

Signups Open For

Tsunami Wrestling

The Tsunami Wrestling season has begun and it’s not too late to sign up.

The activity is for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The season started Jan. 9 and will run through Feb. 24. Practice is 5-6 p.m. Monday through Friday at Blatchley Middle School. 

Tsunami Wrestling is a program for students to learn the basic fundamentals in folk-style wrestling, which is the primary focus in the academic programs throughout middle school and high school.

SCT Set for

Broadway Night

GSAC Sitka Community Theater will present Broadway Night at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Odess Theater.

Broadway Night is an evening of showtunes performed by local friends and celebrities. The ticket price of $45 includes appetizers, wine, soft drinks and treats in a fundraiser for GSAC Sitka Community Theater. 

Sponsors include umbrella organizations Greater Sitka Arts Council, Sea Mart and Sitka Fine Arts Camp.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Old Harbor Books and fineartscamp.org. Those wanting to volunteer or have questions may call 907-738-0602.  

 

Tribal Council

To Meet Jan. 18

The Sitka Tribe of Alaska Tribal Council will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, both in person and via Zoom. The meeting agenda and Zoom link are available on the STA webpage at www.sitkatribe.org.

 

Bereavement

Retreat on Tap

Brave Heart Volunteers invites the public to join the Winter Heart Bereavement Retreat 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11.

‘‘Take the day to retreat into a safe space and spend time with others who are also experiencing grief,’’ organizers said.

Pioneers of Alaska

To Meet Jan. 20

Pioneers of Alaska Sitka Igloo will meet 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the Unitarian Hall on Marine Street. Parking is available in the back.

Grand President George Lounsbury will be on hand for this special meeting and potluck dinner.

The main part of the meal, ham and yams, will be provided. Those attending can take a dish to share.

U.S. Coast Guard

Auxiliary to Meet

The Sitka Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will meet 5:30 p.m. Friday. It is open to the public.

New members are welcome. There is not a prior service requirement. Members need not have been in the Coast Guard or any other branch of the military.

The civilian volunteer group works with the Coast Guard and the main mission is promoting boating safety.
